"The Americans keep telling us how successful their system is. Then they remind us not to stray too far from our hotel at night." - An un-named EU trade representative quoted during international trade talks in Denver, Colorado, 1997.

Maybe someone should look into that

If you haven't read that New York Times piece on the News of the World phone hacking case, do. It's all good, muck-raking stuff. Of particular interest is the role of Scotland Yard. What makes the thing really fun, though, is the way that the News of the World has responded:

The paper has accused The New York Times of being motivated by rivalry with The Wall Street Journal, owned, like News of the World, by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp.

Now I don't doubt that there's some truth to that, but does the Murdoch Media Empire really want to go down this road? Because, yeah, now you mention it, it does seem like only the papers which aren't owned by Rupert Murdoch are covering this thing, doesn't it? It's almost like media ownership determines the editorial line.
