The best democracy...
As part of my obsession with the US presidential primaries and general work-avoidance I've been looking around OpenSecrets. The funding data was particularly interesting. I never knew, for example, that the pro-Israel lobby gives so much more to the Dems than the Repubs so consistently. Enjoy.

I think there are a couple of factors in this: firstly, American Jews have traditionally aligned themselves with the Democrats in far greater numbers than with the Republicans, while at the same time having an obvious interest (possibly even conflict of interest in some cases) when it comes to Israeli affairs.
Secondly, since the religious right became such a prominent force within the Republican Party, the Republicans hardly need any cash incentives to vote in a supposedly pro-Israeli fashion (I saw "supposedly" because it remains to be seen whether it's in Israel's interest to remain in a perpetual state of war and hostility with its neighbours). And that's even before discussions on the Republican party's symbiosis with the military-industrial complex come into play.
Nevertheless, what is abundantly clear is that this is another example of how, at national level at least, the US is a one-party state masquerading as a two-party state. Americans can have their politicians in whatever political stripe they like, as long as its pro-Israeli.
